M L SULTAN completed their 15th consecutive Cumberwood Ward Interschool Athletics Championship with an astounding 200 points lead by the end of the tournament held on July 25.

Winning nine of the divisional trophies and having their pupil Lewis Terry win the prestigious Victrix Ludorum trophy for the fourth consecutive year, the school thanked their dedicated band of athletes and teachers for their commitment in ensuring their recipe for success continued as well as the spirited efforts of their athletics coach, Milesh Lambert.

Cumberwood High Schools Sports Association comprises schools in the Northdale circuit namely: Kharina Secondary, Silver Heights Secondary, Heather Secondary, Woodlands Secondary, Raisethorpe Secondary, Dunveria Secondary, Eastwood Secondary, Northbury Park Secondary and M.L. Sultan (PMB) Secondary.

With the field events preceding the track events and being hosted at the Raisethorpe Secondary grounds a week before, the finals were held at the Northdale Stadium, M.L. Sultan headed into the finals with a healthy lead by 56 points.

Various track events took place throughout the final day with the Honcho’s Invitational Relay being a crowd favourite for the fan-filled stadium.

The relays displayed an exquisite show of teamwork by the various schools competing much to the appreciation of the crowd in attendance.

By the end of the 400 metre events M.L. Sultan had opened up a 160-point lead and it was clear that only second prize was up for grabs as nearest-challengers Kharina and Heather Secondary battled it out for the silver.

In the end though there was only one clear winner as M.L. Sultan finished their Cumberwood campaign with 429 points, 200 ahead of the nearest-challenger Kharina Secondary who pipped out Heather Secondary for second place as they finished on 229 points with the latter ending of on a respectable 228 points.
