Model to represent SA in the Philippines

NQOBILE Ngcobo (19), who lives in the CBD, has been chosen to represent South Africa in the Miss Tourism Pageant that takes place in the Philippines in May.

However, it all depends on fundraising as she doesn’t have the financial means to attend this event, and is looking for sponsors.

She gained this position after she was crowned Miss Tourism Goodwill Ambassador in the Miss Tourism Globe SA that was held in March at Durban City Hall.

Speaking to Echo, Ngcobo said she cannot wait to go and represent her country and the city of Pietermaritzburg in this pageant.

“I am so proud of myself and I feel like an African queen for being given this opportunity to represent my country. I am not doing this for me, my friends or my family but it is for the whole country,” she said.

She said she has mixed emotions regarding this trip.

“I am so excited and sad at the same time. I am prepared and ready to go and represent my country and make it proud but my problem is that I need sponsors to help me with the travelling expenses, accommodation and to buy 40 gifts.

“One of the requirements is that I need to bring gifts that we will exchange as there will be more than 100 countries. If I can get anyone who can assist me with the evening I will be grateful.”

She said she has approached the Tourism Department in Pietermaritzburg for accommodation and flights but nothing has been finalised.

Ngcobo is the only one from Pietermaritzburg who will be attending this event. She said when she entered Miss Tourism Globe SA she wanted to get exposure so that she can use it to help young struggling children across South Africa.

If you would like to assist Ngcobo you can call her on 062 400 6920 or send an e-mail to
