LOCAL darts player, Kalin Moodley, finished in first place at the KwaZulu-Natal darts trials recently, earning himself a spot to compete in the national competition in Port Elizabeth this month, which is equivalent to a red carpet event for darts players.

The current Msunduzi Singles and Super League champion came through four rounds of the best players in the province to finish a staggering seven games clear of his nearest competitor. Moodley heads off to Port Elizabeth from June 24 to 28 to play for his Protea colours.

The Deccan Road Primary teacher returns to oche after a career-threatening injury.

“I could not have done it without the support of my family and friends. They have helped me get back to the top,” he said.

He added that darts in the Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas is fast gaining popularity and hopes his successes will encourage new and old players to keep playing this sport which may be incorporated in the Olympics in 2024.
