AFEMALE security-guard controller was fatally gunned down at the gate of her home in the wee hours of last Thursday.

The 42-year-old mother of three was about to board a company vehicle at 3.40am, heading to work at the time.

The children’s father, Nathi Zitha, said the family heard several gunshots and the deceased, Nokuthula Zuma, screamed as the firearm went off, but then it was quiet.

Zitha said he and their 21-year-old daughter went to check on Zuma and found her lying on the ground.

He said the company vehicle had driven a few metres away and he could hear the engine revving, which made him think the driver was trying to get away quickly.

“If they [passengers in the company vehicle] were trying to run away, how could they leave her lying on the ground like that?” Zitha questioned. Zuma had worked at a security company for 15 years.

Her sister Nobuhle said Zuma had not spoken about a threat to her life recently, however, she said her sister was attacked in March, her vehicle sustained 11 bullet holes and she was wounded by four bullets.

Nobuhle said that matter was reported to the police, however, police investigations yielded no results.

“She was a people’s person, who got along with every one and enjoyed a good laugh,” Nobuhle said.

Nobuhle said the March attack also took place outside their home’s gate.

Nobuhle said after the shooting a neighbour had seen an armed man run across their yard to a nearby sports field where he was picked up by a white Avanza, which they believe had earlier dropped him off at the gate.

Unfortunately, the neighbour didn’t get the number plate.

Plessislaer SAPS Spokesperson Captain Musa Ntombela said Zuma was shot 11 times in the upper body.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage and no arrests have been made yet.
