Mountain rise police appeal for vigilance and cooperation

2018-06-27 06:01

WITH winter now in full swing, the Mountain Rise Police have urged all members of the public to remain vigilant and work with them in an effort to curb the increased crime rate due to the cold season.

“During the winter months, criminals tend to take advantage of the extended periods of darkness, because we experience shorter days and longer nights,” said warrant officer J Maistry.

Maistry advised the public to take the necessary precautions in order for them to avoid being the victim of crime.

THESE PRECAUTIONS CAN ASSIST IN MAKING YOU LESS VULNERABLE TO CRIME.

• Park your vehicle in areas that are properly secured and brightly lit

• Make sure that your vehicles are properly locked and remove any valuables that are in the vehicle, so as to not tempt anyone to break in

• Maistry asked that members of the public refrain from buying vehicles online (Internet) where you are requested to deposit money into an account of an unknown person as this usually ends up being a scam and, once the money is deposited, the people will disappear

Maistry said that it is important for the community to be vigilant and work together this winter, in an effort to fight crime.

“Together we can make a difference,” said Maistry.
