FORMER Mr Pietermaritzburg and local good Samaritan Ryan Freddy, in his quest to spread hope and awareness, is gunning for the title of Mr KZN in the Role Models Foundation contest.

Freddy, in his last year of studies, is hoping to win the pageant in order to help further the community that he has been servicing even before he was crowned Mr PMB.

“I have always felt the need to give back and help others who are less-fortunate than myself,” said Freddy.

Starting a campaign called “Hand in a can”, where he collected and handed out canned goods to the poverty-stricken; being part of a local blood drive and Woodlands feeding scheme; and sending goods to Cape Town for the needy, Freddy has done his fair share for humanity but still wants to do more.

“I want to win in order to gain more attention, to bring to light my cause, and donate more,” said Freddy.

In order for Freddy to qualify for the pageant, he had to raise a minimum of R350 and have at least 10 items or gifts for the needy, with all the proceeds going towards eradicating poverty by donating the goods to children, the elderly and widowers in a project called Imfundo.

Freddy said that he was not into the model and pageant scene until he persuaded by his peers but since then has had the opportunity to model at events such as the Tsoga Sprint Race Day and many others.

The pageant will be held in Balito at the La Montagne Resort on April 7, and those wanting to show their support for Freddy can do so by visiting his Facebook page and liking his picture uploaded by the Mr and Mrs KZN Facebook group.

“I want to continue doing this work because there are so many projects out there and I want to provide for as many people as I can to make as much difference as I possibly can,” said Freddy.
