A TOTAL of 10 co-operatives, under Msunduzi Municipality, were given a head start last Wednesday after receiving starter packs to assist in fuelling their businesses at the co-operatives summit in the city.
Msunduzi Mayor Chris Ndlela said the summit was hosted with the aim of achieving radical economic transformation in the municipality through sustainable co-operatives. “Economic development is the heart and soul of any municipality, the purpose of the summit was to showcase the various co-operatives within Msunduzi Municipality. Empowering these co-operatives not only benefits the members but employment for other people especially the youth is also created,” said Ndlela.
Those that benefitted are Phenduka Senior Citizens, Asizenzeleni Senior Citizens, Sizanani Women’s Club, Izwelethu Co-operative and Inhlakanipho Co-operative.
A further five co-operatives received 800 chicks to help start their poultry farming - Sambulo Co-op, Okuhle Nomusa Co-op, Idili Co-op, Kuyehlela Co-op and Inkehli Co-op. -
