IN a statement issued to the press, the Msunduzi Municipality stated it has approved a revised budget for the 2017/2018 financial order in order to put into effect the National Energy Regulator’s decision that electricity tariffs be increased by 1.88%.

The municipal council had initially approved a budget on May 31 which had an increase of 3.08% for electricity tariffs.

In the statement municipality spokesperson, Thobeka Mafumbatha, said that Nersa’s decision prompted the municipality to revise the budget to effect that change.

“In a meeting held on June 28, the municipal council of Msunduzi Municipality approved the revised budget for 2017/2018.

“The budget has been submitted to the National Treasury as per the requirement of the legislation.

“It is also available on the municipal website and will be available in public libraries.”

“Msunduzi Municipality would like to appeal to its residents to use electricity and water sparingly. We encourage citizens to report any illegal electricity connections,” Mafumbatha said.
