MSUNDUZI Municipality Mayor Themba Njilo is proud to be hosting the first Msunduzi Youth Summit on June 29 at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall.

The summit is the municipality’s initiative which Njilo came up with to fast-track the development of the youth in Msunduzi.

“Our municipality takes matters of youth development very seriously hence we are hosting this summit,” said Njilo.

With the theme “Encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship”, the Msunduzi Youth Summit has the following programmes

• Outreach programme: designed to highlight available opportunities for the youth in order to address poverty and create jobs.

• Entrepreneurial skills training: aimed at empowering youth already in business with skills that will heighten their competency levels in order to engage in the mainstream economy.

• Capacity building: organisations and/or youth bodies (e.g. NYDA, government and other agencies) to assist with funding and sponsorship and skills development for youth.

• Mentorship and leadership development: NGOs, youth bodies, government and support groups render services for the leaders of tomorrow.

Having hosted the first build-up event last week at Kwa-Vulindlela in Pietermaritzburg, and one in Eastwood on June 12, three other activations leading to the summit will take place as follows:

• June 15: Grange

• June 19: Edendale

• June 22: Imbali.

“We encourage our youth to take part in these events not only to showcase their businesses, but also to learn about opportunities that will help grow their business,” said Njilo.
