Municipality statements delayed - system blamed

A PIETERMARITZBURG landlord contacted Maritzburg Echo and complained about not receiving rates statements from the Msunduzi Municipality for the eight properties he has up for rent.

He also said he has to read the water

Delanga said of even more inconvenience is that his tenants cannot pay for water because the accounts are in his name so they can’t ask for the municipality for a statement in order to pay.

He said in one instance a tenant left him with a R4 000 bill for water, sewerage and refuse, but had statements been sent to his address the tenant would have paid and he, as the owner, would have been able to monitor the account.

The matter was referred to Msunduzi Municipality spokesperson, Thobeka Mafumbatha who replied: “The municipality is implementing a new financial system that is expected to comply with the new regulation of MSCOA. [The] revenue module has gone live recently, [the] printing of statements were delayed for few days, but the process is currently being finalised by our printers.”

She said the municipality began posting statements to consumers on Tuesday, August 22.
