Municipality’s broken promises

2019-03-20 06:01

ON Sunday at around 11.40 am, the residents of the informal settlement by the railway line across from Northway Mall, blocked the only current exit and entrance into Woodlands and Claridge.

Not only was this entrance blocked but some residents’ vehicles were stoned and damaged by the protesters (who are protesting for houses).

The question is, what makes these people so privileged to get houses yet we have residents in the community who are living with four generations in one small house and they are not getting anything? Where do these protesters come from and why are they not protesting where they originally come from?

What has the municipality done for these protesters, besides make broken promises and give free T-shirts?

There’s a housing project that’s happening in Ward 25 for these residents yet the municipality has closed the only other emergency exit (see The Witness last week). Why must the ratepayers of Woodlands and Claridge be held hostage because of the corrupt municipality’s broken promises?

I appreciate and I am thankful for the Mountain Rise police and other units, the neighbourhood watch and the residents of Woodlands (Ward 32), Woodlands extension (Ward 25) and Happy Valley (Ghost town + flats Ward 32) for opening the road again.

I request that the municipality pulls up its socks and fixes all its broken promises and be a municipality for all, not a municipality for one.
