THE Young Natalians were off to a good start on Friday, November 24, when they beat the reigning champions Ethekwini City 3-1 in their opening fixture played at the YMCA in Pietermaritzburg.

The game was played at extremely fast pace with goalmouth action on both ends.

Renaldo Donnelly scored a brace in the first half and the home team went into the break leading 2-1.

It was a great game of Futsal to watch with two of KZN’s top teams going head to head.

The mighty Natalians where rampant in defence and attack and controlled the tempo for most of the game.

Tsepo Liphuko scored the winner in the last ten minutes and City were unable to recover thereafter.

Captain Simphiwe Mgedezi once again displayed great leadership and was brilliant in defence.

“We were looking forward to this game,” said coach Greg Nair.

“We trained well. My guys were focused and determined

To win. I think we have the hunger back. It was a brilliant performance by my Boys,” he said.

Young Natalians play Maritzburg Hotspurs in the local derby this Friday, December 1, at the YMCA.

The game kicks off at 8pm.
