GOSPEL and mbaqanga gospel artist Ndoda Maphumulo shared his music journey with his fans during a CD launch held at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall last Friday. Maphumulo, who lives in KwaPata but is originally from KwaSwayimane, launched his CD which is titled Longa Walk. The CD has 20 songs. Speaking to Echo, Maphumulo said he wanted to shared his journey with his supporters and that is why he decided to release a CD.“The CD contains all the music I have made since I started. I wanted to remind people where I come from and where I am going on my journey in music. It was also my way of thanking them for all the support they have giving me all these years since I started music,” he said.Maphumulo started making music 10 years ago but his love for music started when he was still a youngster. “I started singing in assembly while I was still in primary school“During my school days I used to sing isicathamiya, then switched to mbaqanga gospel and gospel because I realised that it is the genre that I understand better.“Since then I have not stopped singing. Music is part of me. It is my passion.” He said his dream is to teach young children in rural areas about music because they do not often get such opportunities.“I come from the rural areas. I know the difficulties you face when you want to pursue a career in music.“I want to teach the children when they are still young so that by the time they are at the stage where they decide they want to get into music, they are ready.“I do not want them to suffer like me because they do not have enough information about the industry,” he said.
