Shana Reddy may have bitten off more than he can chew according to some, but by accepting the position of principal of Woodlands Secondary, Reddy said that the challenges he faces will be beneficial to the pupils and community.

“This school has had a problem with discipline over the years and that it why I vowed to improve discipline of the pupils here and the pass rate in my interview,” said Reddy.

Having taken over as principal of the school after teaching for 31 years, Reddy stated that one of his main objectives is to take the school’s 71% pass rate achieved last year and bump it up to 90% in the least.

“It is going to be a difficult task and there have been many questions surrounding why I would take on such challenge but I believe with the help of my staff and pupils that we can do it,” he said.

Beginning his career at the Stanger ML Sultan Secondary School back in 1987, Reddy went on to teach in Heather Secondary for 28 years before taking up his current position ata Woodlands Secondary.

The principal credits his profession choice down to it being thought of as a respectable career and said that through teaching he was able to help the community by nurturing future pupils.

Reddy called former pupils to assist the school in reclaiming its esteemed reputation. He added that there are many ways he wants to improve the school, such as implementing extra lessons for the matric pupils as well as constantly monitoring attendance so as to prevent them from roaming the street.
