Nine injured after multi-vehicle collision

NINE people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate after a bus, a bakkie and a light motor vehicle­ collided on the corners of Longmarket and Chapel street in Pietermaritzburg CBD on Tuesday afternoon­.

An off-duty ER24 paramedic was travelling by vehicle when he came across the collision at approximately 5.45pm.

Upon further assessment, he found nine patients had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The eight patients in the bakkie sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Fortunately, the bus was not transporting any passengers.

ER24, as well as another medical service on the scene, transported the patients to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg and Northdale hospital for further medical care.

Police were on the scene for further investigation.
