No bail for teen mom

A TEENAGE mother who allegedly drowned her six-month-old baby in the Msunduzi River along Woodhouse Road in Scottsville two weeks ago, abandoned her bail application at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday.
Nelisa Ngcobo (19) from Taylor’s Halt is facing charges of premeditated murder. State prosecutor Patty Davids told the court that Ngcobo is willing to apply for bail but she does not have an alternative address in which to live.

Davids said no one in Ngcobo’s family is willing to accommodate her. She further told the court that the investigation is expected to be complete by next week as the post-mortem is outstanding.

Ngcobo made headlines two weeks ago when she allegedly drowned her baby, claiming that she did not want the child. The baby was found dead the next day after hours of searching by members of the police search and rescue team. The case was adjourned to February 5 for the case to be transferred to a regional court.
