WARD 10 community members have vowed that they will not accept any ward councillor in the area, except for Nkosinathi “TK” Gambu, or they would rather appoint one themselves. This after Msunduzi speaker Jabu Ngubo told residents that marched to City Hall last Thursday that she had appointed a new ward 10 councillor that will stand in for Gambu who was arrested four months ago in connection with the murder of Msawenkosi Maqatha Mchunu.Ngubo said it is her job as speaker to appoint someone to stand in for a councillor if the current councillor is not available. “I have already appointed someone that will be working with the community, however I haven’t got a chance to introduce him/her due to other duties I have to fulfil within the municipality. “I will ask my office to assist me to arrange a community meeting to officially introduce this person and also discuss the problems that the community is facing and to see if we can come up with a solution,”she said. Convener of the march Sanele Majola said they do not want a new councillor; they just want answers from the speaker as to why she has not come to address the community since Gambu’s arrest. “We want our Gambu or someone that we will appointed ourselves. We need him [Gambu] and we trust him,” he said. “Since (Gambu) was arrested, the ward is dysfunctional. People cannot get proof of residence and pensioners cannot renew their grants. The speaker informed us that somebody comes to the municipality to obtain proof of residence letters and then brings it back to the ward. We do not know this person and we have never seen those letters.”Majola said they submitted a memorandum to the municipality and have given them 21 days to respond. “We want to know why other ward councillors are interfering in the matters of ward 10. We want to know why they [municipality] have not come to address us for the past four months,” he said.
