UP-AND-COMING Imbali gospel artist Sfiso Hlabisa has been nominated for two awards at the Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma) which will be held in Johannesburg on August 24.

Hlabisa received nominations for Best New Comer and Best CD Sleeve Design.

Speaking to Echo, Hlabisa said he is excited and nervous at the same time as he has been nominated alongside other well-known artists.

“I feel so honoured. I had hoped to be nominated but I never expected it.

“My wish is to bring both these awards to Pietermaritzburg. We must get these awards and stop congratulating other people from other cities.

“I have faith in people that they will help me bring these awards home. I am pleading with everyone to please vote for me. This is not for me only but it is for Pietermaritzburg as a whole,” he said.

Hlabisa recently released his solo album, Ngophephelaphi. He said he wrote this album for those who think they have no direction and are lacking faith in life.

Hlabisa said he started singing in 1996 in a gospel group called Sacred fellows. He then went solo in 1998.

The artist said he wants to grow in the music industry until he is able to work with international artists and his music becomes known internationally.

“I am planning on having my own recording studio. I want to help groom up-and-coming artists so they can make a living out of their God-given talent,” he said. “I am also planning on launching my music before the end of the year.”

To vote for Hlabisa SMS “Ingoma Sfiso Hlabisa best new comer” to 40439 or “Ingoma Sfiso Hlabisa best CD sleeve design” to 40439. SMS’s cost R2. You can vote as many times as you like.
