IN a first for the northern areas, two cricketers from Northdale were selected to participate in the Dolphins U17 camp hosted at the Oval by KZN Cricket Inland last week.

This was the first time the camp had moved to the Oval and Kyle Moodley and Abishek Sewlal are the first Northdale cricketers ever to be selected to attend such a cricketing camp.

Abishek is playing club cricket for Lancashire CC, while Kyle plies his trade with Varsity CC, with both having attended local primary schools, Orient Heights and Deccan Road primary, respectively.

Kyle last year represented the KZN Inland U15 squad at the National Cricket Week and now features regularly for the St Charles first team. He also won the award for most improved player at the Varsity first division year-end function.

Abishek has also represented uMgungundlovu at the Salga games and represents Lancashire CC at premier level.

KZN cricket inland coaching manager Yashveer Singh said that both cricketers have promising futures ahead and that with the relevant supporting structures that are going to be put in place, he hopes to see many more players coming through the ranks.

“With Cricket South Africa announcing a hub to be placed at TPA Primary School as the new base, structures will be in place for the community to excel in cricket and for many to emerge through the ranks,” said Singh.

Singh said that they are expecting to start the cricketing hub from as early as August 1.

“With hard work and perseverance, and support from the community, we are looking forward to a productive and successful programme,” said Singh.
