NORTHDALE Hospital contract staff on Tuesday downed tools to picket outside the hospital, voicing concerns over issues of outsourcing at the facility.

The group of about 50 cleaners and security guards contracted by the hospital sang and danced outside the entrance, waving placards. The protesters called for the end of staff outsourcing and alleged mistreatment of staff by hospital management.

Speaking to The Witness during the protest, Congress of South African Trade Unions local chairperson Chief Dlamini said the union expects the hospital to absorb cleaning and security staff.

“We do not want any outsourcing in any government institution ... the staff need decent jobs,” Dlamini said.

“We as a union will keep an eye on the hospital’s achievements in this matter.”
