SAI Medico is the newly opened medical facility that aims to give the community of Pietermaritzburg superior health care but at a price that’s affordable for all.

Dr Vishelan Munsamy opened the doors to this medical facility at 60 Boshoff Street (corner of Boshoff and Boom street) in early January.

Dr Munsamy graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and he obtained diplomas in child health and HIV management.

Sai Medico is named after Dr Munsamy’s spiritual guru, Sri Sathya Sai Baba.

The medical centre offers various services such as general medical consultations with bedside tests, a dispensing practice, electrocardiograph (heart rhythm) assessment, sexual health and HIV management and blood collection for laboratory, etc. Pensioners day is on Thursdays where the elderly receive a basic health screening at no charge.

Dr Munsamy said he has a vision to provide effective, privately accessible medical care for the greater Pietermaritzburg population.

“I wants this practice to grow with the empowerment of the nation and the promotion of health-seeking behaviour.

“My desire now is to inspire young South Africans to persevere over obstacles and difficulties, by proving I can achieve my goal as a young fellow South African in creating a new health-care environment,” he said.

Dr Munsamy wants his medical facility to work hand in hand with the Department of Health in removing the burden in the public sector, while still maintaining outstanding private health care.

“I believe that there is scope for alternative care treatment and in future Sai Medico will be offering not only Western medicine but also alternative health-care options. We are here to make you the best version of yourself.”

Sai Medico will be administering family planning and childhood immunization as part of its mother-and-child initiatives.

Sai Medico is opened seven days a week from 8 am to 5 pm, and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. For more information, phone 033 342 1448 or e-mail
