Old ratepayers forum revived

THE Ward 36 committee will be taking the initiative this August by reviving the Pelham-Scottsville Residents and Ratepayers Association (PSRRA) and will be hosting their inaugural launch on August 29.

The launch will take place at the YMCA, Alan Paton Avenue from 6pm and will see chairperson of the Cleland Burgesses Association and dynamic community leader Jacyn Fanner as a guest speaker.

“The launch will adopt the PSRRA and elect office bearers,” said convener of the launch, Anthony Waldhausen.

Waldhausen said that the residents of Msunduzi are very frustrated and fed up at the poor service delivery of the Msunduzi Municipality and called for action.

“We need to take a stand and demand that the municipality be accountable for their poor service delivery which we residents experience on a regular basis. We the ratepayers pay our rates but get poor services in return and it is time we stand up to the corruption of this dysfunctional city,” said Waldhausen.

Earlier this year, Waldhausen led a petition signed by 6090 residents which demanded for better service delivery in the city, which was successfully handed over to the Msunduzi Mayor Themba Njilo.

The municipality was put under administration for the second time which only sought to highlight the fears relayed to the mayor by the petition.

“In order for residents and ratepayers of Pelham and Scottsville to have their voices heard, it was decided to start the process to establish the Pelham-Scottsville Residents & Ratepayers Association.

“We call on residents from Pelham and Scottsville to come on board and save our city,” pleaded Waldhausen.

Waldhausen also called on other ratepayers associations in Pietermaritzburg and Midlands area to join the inaugural launch as well.
