ESIGODINI film-maker Mondli Makhaye has revealed that he will shoot his fourth film, titled Isthombe Somshado, in different locations around Edendale this weekend. Makhaye said that, as a writer and a film-maker, he wants to use this film to expose the talent of the youth of Pietermaritzburg and create job opportunities for them. The film-maker said that most of the actors and actresses in this film hail from Esigodini, Nhlazatshe, Caluza, and uMshwathi. “We will start shooting the film on Sunday. All the people that have been chosen to be part of this film were chosen through auditions because I wanted to give everyone an equal opportunity. “Acting is not like a hobby — it is something that is within you, something that you can make a living out of — that is why it is important to choose people who are really passionate about it,” he said.Makhaye said his wish for this film is to see it win awards and be seen in festivals.“We want people to know that, in our city, we have talent and we can make things happen. “Since I started doing films back in 2013, I have been using our local actors and actresses and what I have discovered is that our city has a lot of talent, it’s just that there are no opportunities. “No one is paying attention to our young and upcoming actors and actresses. They need motivation and platforms where they can showcase their acting skills. That way they will be better off because when they leave the city to look for other opportunities they will have some experience [to show potential employers].”Makhaye said that being a film-maker has been his dream since he was in high school. “I always had a dream of telling our stories through films. Most of the films that I have shot are educational. I want to pass on messages using film.“One day I want to have my own film company, manage big actors and have a bigger production studio than the one I have now,” he said.
