Overwhelming support for cancer patient

TWO weeks ago Maritzburg Fever reported on a 17-year-old boy who was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, and who is looking for a support group to keep him going during his tough medical journey.

Misisizwe Khoza, Grade 11 pupil at Maritzburg College was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare cancer found in the bones, which mostly affects teenagers.

After the article was published on July 19, the Fever has been inundated with calls and emails from readers wanting to help the teenager.

Fever FB page, giving information that might help Miso find a support group.

Debbie Riggies wrote: “I work for an organisation called Rainbows and Smiles and we support children with cancer, I am also a Mom of a childhood cancer survivor, my daughter was 15 when diagnosed with a Synovial Sarcoma (soft tissue cancer like a Ewing sarcoma). I would be happy to have contact with Miso and his Mom. While other readers were trying to help Miso find a support group, some took on the comment section to wish Miso a speed recovery. Thembi Mntambo wrote: “Miso you are a strong young man. Don’t give up God loves you & you will recover soon I will be praying for you every time when I pray for my children.” [sic]

Genevieve Kelly : “Will be praying for u Miso. I’m so touched by the support already” [sic] Sagree Singh: “May God make it easy on him and give him a speedy recovery.” [sic]

Misizwe’s mother Nqobile Khoza said she is very grateful that people want to help her son.

“It is a difficult time. I am very humbled by the support I am getting from the people of Pietermaritzburg.”
