THE annual Museums Passport Competition is about to get under way. The KwaZulu-Natal Museum, Msunduzi Museum and Old Prison Museum, are offering prizes totalling R50 000 to schools.
For schools to qualify, they have to visit the three participating museums before the end of the third school term, which is at the end of September.
“The aim of the competition is to make the public aware that museums have so much to offer.
“Museums run education programmes that are aligned to the school curriculum. Schools can add value to their programmes by taking the children to visit the museums to enhance their learning experience and make it a memorable one,” said Viranna Frank, public relations and marketing officer at the KZN Museum.
Now in its eighth year of existence, the competition has grown and has been extended to the end of the third term, giving all schools plenty of time to make their visit.
All schools are invited to attend the launch event, which is to be held at the Old Prison Museum on February 7 at 2 pm.
