AFTER HAVING hosted many exciting community empowering night markets; such as the Night at the Pool, Colourfest and the first ever mass ifthaar, along with many other community initiatives; MK Events and Promotions are now officially the MK Community Foundation, a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) with plans to help the community even more going forward. “We are aiming on becoming self sufficient in the near future and will be hosting our first fundraiser ever as a registered NPO this weekend, August 31, where we will award all humanitarian women for the work they have done in 2019,” said Mehroonisa Khan, a member of MK Community Foundation. The event will be to recognise the outstanding achievements of various women who serve the Pietermaritzburg community with honour, humility, pride, and dignity. “This is our first fundraiser as a foundation. It is being held in order to acquire our premises and equipment for basic training and skills development. We do also have other objectives which will be tackled in the not-so-distant future,” said Khan. The event will cater for vegetarian and halal foodies with entertainment in the form of comedy, magician displays, motivational women speakers, and artists on hand to keep the crowd on the edge of their seats. The Humanitarian Women Awards 2019 will take place at Pafta Hall from 4 pm with tickets costing R200 per person.
