POOBIE Naidoo Sports Wholesalers took top honours at the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB) gala dinner and awards last Friday night when the store was named Business of the Year in the services sector.

In a glitzy annual function at the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds business owners and PCB members gathered in their “unapologetically” Bollywood-inspired outfits fitting the theme of the event.

Lungisa Fuzile, director-general of National Treasury, the former finance minister, Ina Cronjé and Msunduzi Mayor, Themba Njilo attended the event.

Guests were entertained with Bollywood­ dances and kept in stitches by South African comedian­, Riaad Moosa, who came from Cape Town for the function.


The Business of the Year in the manufacturing sector was Belgotex Floor Coverings

The first runner-up in the Business of the Year was Pressure Die Castings

The state-owned enterprise Business of the Year was Umgeni Water.

The Medium Enterprise of the Year was Cubicle Manufacturing Solutions

The Small Business of the Year 2016, was Brink Towing Systems

First runner-up in the Small Business of the Year was Inspect-a-Pest

The Champion Entrepreneur 2016 was Bonga Ndaba of 033 Lifestyle Centre.

The Spirit of Entrepreneurship award, a new award, was Pravashen Naidoo of EWaste Africa.
