Pedestrian path

PRAY tell us, revered city parents (no longer city fathers, forsooth) of this anarchic city, how pedestrians are supposed to reach the Montgomery Service Station or the new palace in the sky, the Athlone Centre?

There is not a single protected pedestrian crossing from Old Howick Road, Howick Road or the up lane of Montgomery Drive.

I ran the gauntlet recently to get a newspaper from the service station, and found the experience unpleasant.

How much worse will it be for those not sufficiently nimble to dodge the egos and chariots of Pietermaritzburg drivers, few of whom know any traffic rules?

In addition, the pavement between the entrance to the centre and filling station has now been landscaped, precluding pedestrian traffic that will now either use the very busy roadway or trample the landscaping.

Has no one given this any thought?

And as the centre lurches along, incomplete, we have yet to see the impact on the suburban traffic.
