PELHAM’S very own musician Nkazimulo Dlamini said things started looking up for him in his career after being mentored by the Gqi hitmaker — Okmalumkoolkat.

Dlamini explained that it was the mentorship he received that paved the way for his performance in and around Johannesburg.

“While mentoring me, Okmalumkoolkat gave me tips on how to approach the industry,” he said.

Dlamini, who focuses on rhythm and blues (RnB), hip hop, and Afropop said his passion for music began when he started listening to artists such as Dr Dre, 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Kanye West and many more.

“I’ve been doing music since I was 12 years old. I am currently a producer, engineer and an artist with my own record label named Sausse Boy Records,” said Dlamini.

The musician expressed that the recording label he opened will serve as a publishing company for aspiring artists in Pietermaritzburg.

“They can also use the label to promote their music, which will also help me with finding talent. This will give them a chance to work with me on their albums and projects,” said Dlamini.

Sharing his hopes for his career, Dlamini said he hopes to raise the standard of South African music while representing Pietermaritzburg in Johannesburg and globally.

The musician also shared his challenges which include marketing and promoting himself as a brand. “Pietermaritzburg needs music recognition, there are so many talented people in this city but they are not getting the proper acknowledgement and recognition from the Pietermaritzburg community and promoters in the area,” said Dlamini.
