STARTING his ascent into the music industry from the young age of 13, Maritzburg College pupil Nthuthuko Micah Mkhize will now be featuring in his first-ever live event this month when he stars as one of the performers at this year’s Sisonke Musical Festival at the Royal Show Grounds in June.

Speaking to the Maritzburg Fever ahead of his performance, Mkhize said that this would be his first-ever live performance and that he was very excited to be a headliner among some of Pietermaritzburg’s biggest talents.

“I feel really excited, as this is my first-ever live performance and I feel very privileged to be one of the headliners,” said Mkhize. Mkhize said that he started rapping from the time he was 13 in Grade seven at Merchiston Preparatory School and found that it was a way for him to express himself. “I found that it was an easy way to express how I was feeling inside and used it to cope with the problems I had been facing,” said Mkhize.

With his first live performance coming up, Mkhize is not one to soak up the sun, and is currently working on various projects of making music while hoping that he can one day become a professional rapper.

“My intention is to turn this into a proper career for myself because I love rapping and want to win the hearts of those who listen to me,” said Mkhize.

With four music singles already out on all major platforms, Mkhize draws inspiration from various artists whom he listens to religiously. He said some of his influences include J Cole, Lil’ Wayne, Nasty C and A-Reece, stating that these are some of the artists he relates to.

You can catch the live performances of Mkhize along with some of Pietermaritzburg’s biggest artists on June 2 at the Royal Show Grounds from 2pm.
