FOUNDED in 1920, Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School is a leading girls’ school providing education from Grade 8 to Grade 12.

It remains a prominent government school in the country, committed to ensuring that all South Africans have the opportunity of an excellent education.

The school is home to approximately 1 200 learners with weekly and termly boarding facilities available to 220 girls from areas outside of Pietermaritzburg.

Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High is at the forefront of adopting the Google Suite for education platform and, along with the effective use of technological aids and online resources, is committed to moving education into the 21st century.

Academically, GHS is one of the leading schools in the province and prides itself on its consistently high NSC results and Bachelor Pass rate. In 2017 learners achieved 514 subject distinctions, a Bachelor Pass was awarded to 98,21% of the pupils and 1,78% received a Diploma Pass.

GHS’ highly qualified and dedicated educators encourage pupils to maintain a balance between academics, sport and cultural endeavours.

This all-round and relevant education at Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School provides a foundation upon which learners are most likely to succeed at tertiary level.

GHS is the only all-girls school in KwaZulu-Natal to be named a ‘Sports Focused School’ by the Department of Sport and Recreation.

It boasts extensive sporting facilities and offers a diverse range of sport codes to its learners.
