TWO young models have been selected as the finalists for a national pageant, called Summer Heat Model and Talent Search 2018, that will be held in Gauteng from December 12 to December 17.

Minenhle Juqu (7) from KwaPata and Luyanda Msane (21) from kwaDambuza will be representing Pietermaritzburg in this pageant. Unfortunately, their dreams of competing may not come true as the young hopefuls do not have the required funds to be able to participate.

The registration fee to take part in the national awards event is R1 500 each. Additionally, the two models will need money for accommodation and meals.

The cost for Msane is R2 095, this covers from Wednesday night to Monday breakfast, and for the young Minenhle it is R995 for the full five days.

Both models come from a non-profit organisation called Ubuhle Bethu Child and Youth Development, which is aimed at grooming and helping young children and youth show their different talents.

The organisation’s main focus is areas like Dambuza, KwaPata and Imbali Unit J.

“Being in this competition means a lot to me and to the organisation as well because we both come from it. It is the first time that I get the opportunity to be in a national competition and I am planning it wisely. I’m very excited and nervous at the same time.

“When we compete in this competition, we will not be doing it for ourselves only but we will be doing it for the whole city.

“Even if we do not win, I am sure that we will learn a lot that we will be able to bring back and [give back] to our youth and children here at home. I am pleading to people to please help us make our dream of representing the city come true,” said Msane.
