UMGUNGUNDLOVU District Municipality under Teaching and Learning Services, General Education and Training (TLS-Get) hosted its first economic and management sciences (EMS) quiz at Piet Retief Primary last Tuesday.

This quiz accommodated Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 9 pupils from schools that fall under Umgungundlovu District.

Thirty three schools - 22 primary schools and 11 high schools - participated.

Nine winners received trophies and participants received certificates of participation. For the quiz pupils had to write and give presentations based on the things they have learnt in EMS.

Zandi Mathosi, EMS advisor and quiz organiser from Umgungundlovu District said the aim is to promote and encourage healthy academic competition among pupils.

“This quiz allows pupils to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and knowledge in EMS.

“We want to promote teaching and learning.

“We invited all the schools to enter and they had to send one pupil per class. We are very happy with the response we got,” she said.

The competition will now be an annual event.
