Police give back to the community

PLESSISLAER Police Station, together with Plessislaer Community Policing Forum, came together and assisted destitute families with groceries and needy children with clothes.

These groceries and clothes were handed over to the families and children last Friday at Poyinandi Hall in Plessislaer.

Plessislaer Police Station commander Brigadier Mduduzi Shezi said this is their way of giving back to the community.

“We worked together with councillors and different structures in different communities that we serve to identify the people that benefited in these programme,” he said.

“We also awarded community members who worked very hard in fighting crime in our areas and assisting police in fighting crime.”

Shezi said they also awarded three Msunduzi wards that worked very hard and established different structures in their communities to fight crime. Outstanding police officers were also recognised.

Shezi said this is not the first time they are doing the programme, and assisting the communities is something that they are going to continue in the future.

Ward 22 councillor Xolani Ngongoma said they are very grateful to the police and the CPF for what they are doing for the community.

“We get very excited when we see police getting close to our community. It shows that they are not only here to arrest people but they also care about the communities they serve. We always criticise police that they are not doing their job but here they are fund-raising and caring for the community,” said Ngongoma.

“I would like to urge people to get close to the police and give them information about criminals if they know them because it is the only way that will help the police to make arrests.

“We need to work together and fight crime,” he added.
