A FIRST of its kind, a Positive Parenting Workshop, was held at Bisley Park Primary School on March 10 after a need was recognised by the Bisley community for further psycho-social support for both parents and guardians.

The event, organised and hosted by the school’s resident educational psychologist, Mayure Padayachee, noted that a more systemic and holistic approach to psychological services was necessary to further enhance and improve the sustainability of intervention within the home and school environments.

The workshop boasted more than 100 parents in attendance and proved to be a great success with overwhelming support given to the Positive Parenting Workshop by the parents.

Local guest speakers, Dr Matilda Madekurozwa (specialist paediatrician), Rosella Meusel (educational psychologist) and Smangele Jili (teacher) were on hand to discuss aspects of child development, parenting techniques and discipline in the home.

Parents were also able to use the workshop to seek professional advice, share their personal experiences and concerns, as well as seek comfort from one another through the many in-depth discussions and reflective periods during the workshop.

Many parents described the workshop as “informative” and “eye-opening and motivational”, and went on further to request more workshops akin to this one.
