Post office employees cry foul over parking fines for municipal employees

2015-11-18 06:00

CITY post office employees are crying foul over the leniency of traffic officers when issuing parking fines to municipal employees.

The employees who spoke to Echo said while there are very few designated parking bays outside the post office and Umgungund- lovu District municipal offices, municipal employees park on undesignated parking zones for hours without getting traffic fines.

A post office employee, did not want to be identified, said as it is some municipal employees seem to be doing as they please, as they blockade the post office entrance and have to be called from their offices to remove their cars.

“For years we have complained to the municipality that their employees are blockading our entrance and sometimes we are forced to find alternative parking.

“On top of that they park in undesignated parking zones, but traffic officers never fine them. Instead they issue fines from the parking just above the post office, and not outside their offices.

“We believe that we should be treated the same. The issuing of parking fines should be fair on everyone.”

Employees said they have asked the traffic officers on several occasions, but never get clear answers. “Some may think that this is just a petty issue, but we are all equal before the law,” said another disgruntled employee.

Msunduzi spokesperson Nqobile Madonda said they were unaware of the matter. – Supplied.
