FRUSTRATED and annoyed are just some of the words to describe how Prem Pillay from Regina Road, Bombay Heights feels after the municipality failed to safely repair or replace a power box that has been badly damaged since the beginning of May.

“From the time they [municipality] came to reconnect the lights after it cut, the electric cables have been covered by a makeshift cover,” said Pillay, adding that this was not safe.

After numerous fruitless calls by himself and his neighbour, Pillay said that he had grown tired and frustrated at the lack of urgency shown by the municipality. “The calls to the municipality have been nothing but a waste of our time and money spent on airtime for these calls.”

Pillay said that he has given up on trying to get help from the municipality and his last resort was to contact the media to speed up the process.

“The exposed box poses huge danger especially for inquisitive children who will try to investigate what is under the makeshift cover,” said Pillay. Pillay said that he should not have to nag the municipality to attend to the matter because it is their job to fix things such as this.

“The municipality need to do what they are being paid for instead of sitting in meetings where nothing is ever resolved,” said Pillay.

Municipal spokesperson Thobeka Mafumbatha did not respond to a detailed media query, sent to her via e-mail, at the time of going to press.
