VARIOUS pastors of the Christian faith came together on Sunday to host a prayer for the community in remembrance and honour of the lives that have been lost tragically throughout this year, at the Lahore Road grounds in Northdale.

A massive tent was set up for Sunday called the “Jesus cares prayer tent” and members of the community were invited to share a moment of prayer in memory of all the victims of the recent tragedies, including road accidents, suicides, acts of violence, drug abuse, domestic violence, sickness and other tragic losses.

“These recent tragic events that have gone on in and around our community have begun to cause a stir in our hearts. These are social evils and we just wanted to all come together to ask God for help,” said one of the co-ordinators of the prayer, Pastor Neville Sewlall.

He said that the prayer tent was a joint effort by various pastors and business people in the area, which gathered over 700 people from 4 pm to 5.30 pm on Sunday. “We wanted to reach out to all those who have lost hope, especially the youth, and the turnout was incredible. We prayed for the youth in our community that they would be free of any premature deaths given what’s going on around us in this day and age,” said Sewlall.

Sewlall said that people of all faiths went to the tent to receive prayer and after the prayer everyone was served a hot meal.
