THABITHA Upperroom Connection (TUC) will host a prayer walk against social ills in Edendale and surrounding areas on June 2.

The walk will start at Wadley Stadium in Edendale at 9.30 am.

This prayer walk is aimed at seeking God’s intervention regarding the social ills affecting the community of Edendale and surrounding areas.

Zamokuhle Msimang, the youth leader at the TUC, said that as the youth of this church they decided to do something that will help the community of Pietermaritzburg and raise awareness against social ills.

“For now we are targeting the areas that are hot spots for these social ills. The areas that we have chosen are the areas that have problems of crime, robberies, killings and a high use of drugs and alcohol. We are hoping that God will intervene after this prayer so that our youth can see the light and change their lives for the better.

“It breaks our hearts, especially as youth leaders, when we see youth throwing away their future because of drugs, alcohol and crime. We even see them [youth] during week days drinking alcohol and smoking. We want to let them know we can help them if they are having problems. We want them to know that there are people who they can talk to instead of turning to alcohol and drugs. Some of them end up doing crime because they want money to feed their drinking and smoking habits. This has to stop now. We need to work together as a community to assist our youth,” he said.

Msimang said they have also invited other churches around Pietermaritzburg.

He said the walk will finish at Wadley Stadium where they will have different speakers.
