THE 2016 St Nicholas Diocesan School prefects were recently inducted and the foot washing ceremony was conducted by Reverend Tracy Bell at St George’s Garrison Church.

St Nicholas principal Leon Grové washed the feet of the school’s newly inducted prefects, and the prefects in turn washed the feet of other pupils.

“As an Anglican school we take a great deal of pride in our Christian values of faith, integrity, humility, compassion, respect discipline, courage, passion, wisdom and truth. Our foot washing ceremony, which has taken place for the last five years, is based on the Anglican Maundy Thursday Eucharist, which itself is based on Jesus’ act of washing the feet of his disciples as a sign of his humility and servant hood,” said Grové.

He said that good leaders put other people first before attending to their needs. “This act symbolises our belief in servant leaders who realise that if serving is below you then leading is above you,” said Grové.
