WORKING hard and achieving a matric pass rate of over 80% has paid off for Esiqongweni High School as President Cyril Ramaphosa has promised to build the school a library, science lab, and a computer centre because of their good results. A local doctor has also stated that he is going to donate towards the computer centre. Ramaphosa visited the school last Thursday where he spoke to the pupils, applauding them for being one of the top performing schools in the country. Esiqongweni achieved 84% in 2018 and have consistently been achieving a pass mark of over 80% for the past five years. The president said he would assist with these facilities, which will be ready in a few months, asking that in return the class of 2019 gets a 100% pass rate, saying: “100% is achievable because other schools are doing it; what can stop you from doing it? “We want you to be one of the best and top performing schools in the country with 100%. But, in order for you to achieve that, you need to work very hard, pay attention and do your homework, and make sure that you do your best. “We encourage you to also attend extra classes so that you can perform at your best and focus on your education.“If I look at you I see the people who are going to take this country forward. “I would also like you to be part of the presidential reading club. But in order for you to join, you need to read at least 12 books a year,” he said.
