AFTER much anticipation, Panorama Primary School pupils got something not available at home - a fully equipped computer laboratory and renovated science laboratory.

The state-of-the-art facilities were donated by AfriSam and officially opened by the mayor of Msunduzi Municipality, Chris Ndlela, last Friday.

The computer laboratory has 46 new computers as the school previously had only 15 offering computer lessons from Grade 1 to Grade 7, resulting resulted in three pupils sharing a computer per lesson.

Speaking at the event Ndlela said he hoped the facilities will elevate the business of teaching and learning.

“We are grateful that as government we have partners in the private sector who are as concerned about the welfare of education as we are.”

Ndlela urged the Panorama community to look after the facilities.

“This is a community centre for learning and we place it upon you to make sure it is safe. We warn, how- ever, that the school governing body and pupils are the main custodians and therefore should not be undermined.”

AfriSam Regional Manager, André Potgieter, said it’s been a privilege for them to be a beacon of hope for the community of Panorama.

“The way in which the school is run gives us hope for the future. Giving back to the community makes our jobs worthwhile. We hope when the project is running it will also assist the community of Panorama - it is your duty as the community of Panorama to look after this equipment and protect it.

Panorama principal, Thuli Langa, said the facilities could not have come at a better time.

“The school is celebrating 21 years this year and this is the best gift we could have asked for.

“A benefit of this magnitude is amazing, both the computer and science lab will maximise the intellectual capabilities of our pupils.”
