Promoting active lifestyle

2019-06-19 06:01

WHIZZKIDS United (WKU) at Edendale Hospital intend to celebrate Youth Day 2019 by promoting an active lifestyle on June 15.

WKU will be commemorating Youth Day under the theme “ bridging limitations”. The theme is befitting with the consistent struggle of all young people in South Africa, which includes major socio-economic issues such as poverty and unemployment.

The organisation will undertake a peaceful march before the event programme starts to mobilise the audience. The march will depart from Edendale Hospital Whizzkids United at 10 am to Edendale Mall then return back to Whizzkids. The march is meant to honour the youth that was ambushed by apartheid regime police on June 16, 1976, allowing contemporary youth to remember the heroes by walking in their footsteps.

This event is aimed at encouraging the youth to bridge the limitations in all facets of their everyday lives, transforming society through a transformation of mindset. The organisers believe that this event will help unlock the potential leadership and vision in the current generation, and activate change, encouraging youth not just to follow trends but to set them.

The event will also include various activities such as live performances of comedy, drama, poetry and health talks from Sinomlando Project. Following this will be the keynote speech which will be delivered by Fezeka Zakwe, who will be elaborating more on the theme of the day.

The speakers will include representatives from uMsunduzi Museum who will talk about history. The event will be supported by three poetry guests from Howick in Pietermaritzburg. Further special events to celebrate important days will follow after this event, including a Women’s Day sports tournament. — Supplied.
