PSL’s refusal a concern

2016-09-28 06:00

THE Premier Soccer League’s refusal to accede to Sundowns Football Club’s request to have some of their local games postponed is against Fifa’s principles of fair play.

Sundowns FC is participating in the Confederation of African Football (Caf) club competition and the PSL should have been sympathetic to their request.

This team will now face a gruelling schedule of seven games this month, which includes travelling to Zambia for a Caf game.

This tight schedule will definitely affect them negatively.

What is most worrying about this decision is the lack of consistency.

South African soccer teams that participated previously in the Caf competitions had their PSL games postponed to allow them to prepare better.

And the question now is why can’t the PSL do the same thing for Sundowns Football Club?

The Brazilians deserve better because they are not only representing themselves, but representing the country.

All efforts should have been made to make sure that they succeed.
