A PIETERMARITZBURG Children’s Home pupil’s dream of becoming a fashion designer came true when she received a bursary from the School of Fashion Design.

Zanele Rapitsi (19) was offered a fully-paid bursary by Priscilla Bhika (owner of School of Fashion Design) to complete her first year.

Rapitsi said she is very happy that Bhika and the School of Fashion Design have helped her realise her dream.

“I have always had a passion for fashion and I was a keen designer who started drawing outfits and dresses since I was in Grade 4.

“The love of fashion and staying updated with the latest trends fostered the love for fashion as a career.

“I still can not believe it. I never thought that I would be furthering my studies this year, let alone doing what I have always dreamed off.

I have a lot to be thankful for, especially to everyone at the Pietermaritzburg Children’s Home and to Bhika and the school,” she said. Rapitsi started her studies last Wednesday and is looking forward to learning new skills.

PCH public relations officer Christopher Mohadeo said he and Rapitsi visited the school and spoke to Bhika about Rapitsi’s dream of becoming a fashion designer.

“She [Bhika] saw a passion and the drawings that were produced by Rapitsi.

She was impressed and she then offered her a bursary. We are very humbled by Bhika’s generous heart and her willingness to offer Rapitsi a full bursary,” he said.
