THE sky is the limit for the bubbly and media-loving Mduduzi Dawud Phungula, who wants to be a force to be reckoned with in the media and entertainment industry.

Phungula, a radio personality and journalist for Radio Al Ansaar, has started his YouTube channel - The Dawud Show TV.

In his show he interviews community leaders, business people and residents who are doing great things for their communities.

Phungula, originally from Inchanga near Hammarsdale, now lives in Kwanyamazane.

While growing up in Inchanga, he was given the opportunity of being part of a radio station operating in the area. The downside was that the radio station was “pirated”, however, this didn’t deter him and he gave it his all and his talent was recognised by many in his community.

“I used to do an afternoon show after school and even worked on weekends because I loved what I was doing, never mind that the radio station was operating illegally.

“I have always wanted to be part of the media industry and have always had a love and passion for the media. Instead of waiting for opportunities, I prefer to make things happen myself in order to showcase my talent. Hopefully one day someone will recognise the talent in me.”

The radio station eventually closed down, but as an on-air personality for Radio Al Ansaar, Phungula felt there was more he could do to improve his broadcasting skills and has been part of the radio station since March 2015.

“My colleagues have been very supportive and I am thankful for that. When I first started to do the YouTube videos I did not know what I was doing, but watched a lot of YouTube videos and surfed the internet to learn how to edit my own videos. The videos highlight the unsung heroes from our communities.

“There are a lot of people who are doing great things and they do deserve recognition. From artists to local business people and community leaders, The Dawud Show TV is the platform where these people can shine. People who are close to us inspire us a lot,” said Phungula.
