Radio presenter eats ‘Malema humble pie’

UKHOZI FM presenter Zama Ngcobo, who was suspended after she criticised EFF leader Julius Malema on air, was made to eat humble pie.

Ngcobo who returned to air yesterday, after serving a one-week suspension, was made to apologise to Malema and the EFF on air during Friday’s breakfast show.

Ngcobo had come under fire for comments she made about Malema while she was speaking to the show’s resident political analyst, Nhlanhla Mtaka.

Mtaka has a slot in the show where he analyses news that had been trending the previous week.

While discussing the topic “economic freedom in our lifetime”, Ngcobo asked Mtaka what advice he would give to young people so they would be “careful of people like Julius Malema who have done nothing for the youth”.

Without quoting any report, Ngcobo further stated that Malema had used the party’s money for his wedding.

Mtaka immediately told Ngcobo he would not comment on unfounded allegations and asked that they stick to the topic.

Ngcobo’s statement enraged EFF members, who held a meeting with the SABC management last week and called for her to be fired. EFF supporters also picketed outside the Durban studio.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago did not respond to queries.

Provincial EFF chairperson Vukani Ndlovu said he had not received any feedback from the SABC and would comment once he had got something official.
