RAISETHORPE Secondary School Grade 12 pupil Sauvira Jugath recently won the Proverto National Olympiad in the accounting category. For the Olympiad, pupils from Grade 10 to Grade 12 competed in subjects such as accounting, business studies and economics. There were two rounds in the competition, the first was on May 6 with the final held on July 31. Sauvira said she got the news of her victory last Friday, September 6 from her principal.“When the principal phoned my parents I couldn’t believe it. “I was so proud of myself and I still can’t believe I came out first in accounting against so many pupils who participated,” said Sauvira. Schools from all over the country participate in the competition by entering pupils who do well in the three subjects. Although Sauvira is doing great in accounting, she said she will be studying medicine next year.“I love numbers but I am more passionate about helping people and being there for them so that is why I have applied in most institutions that offer medicine as a course,” said Sauvira.Principal Indran Pillay congratulated Sauvira on her success in the competition. “These are the results of commitment and dedication. “Sauvira has always strived for excellence and she has been rewarded for such. She has truly done the school proud by serving as a great ambassador,” said Pillay.For winning the competition, Sauvira secured a bursary to study at Boston College and also won a medal and trophy for herself and Raisethorpe Secondary.
