A 46-YEAR-OLD from KwaNyamazane was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court recently for raping a
14-year-old girl.

According to Alexandra Police Station spokesperson Captain Kholeka Mhlongo, the victim was visiting her friend when Sifiso Khuzwayo (accused), who is known to her as he normally consumes alcohol in the nearby shebeen, called and sent her to the tuck-shop to buy cigarettes.

When the victim came back, the Khuzwayo locked the door, tied her hands, inserted a towel on her mouth and raped her.

“He threatened to kill the girl if she reported the matter to anyone but the she informed the neighbour who then told her mother.

A rape case was opened at Alexandra Road SAPS and the Family Child and Sexual Offences unit took over the investigation.

“The matter was set for trial where the accused denied allegations against him, however, the investigating officer had gathered all relevant evidence which led to the positive sentencing of the accused,” Mhlongo said.

Mhlongo applauded the sentence saying that it should set an example to other rapists and criminals that no one is above the law.
