RAPPING from the young age of 13, internet sensation Dillin Nundkumar who goes by the name of Qik-D, dreams of one day becoming one of the greats and inspiring the youth to never stop believing in themselves.

Beginning his musical career with N.E.R Records Deejay Bavistro and Althaaf Junior Sheik, who is still his producer, Nundkumar has performed at various events including the Love to Live concert which he credits as a lifechanging moment.

“The response that I received on social media all because of that one night was crazy, although it was just one performance it made me realise how much more I am looking forward to the future of my rap career,” said Nundkumar.

Writing his lyrics and creating his own beats with the help of his music team, Nundkumar takes inspiration from an international artist called Logic whose storytelling and message of peace, love and positivity have motivated him while also recognising local artists such as Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest as some of his favourites.

Nundkumar said that he first began rapping in front of close friends and to this day he still feels the nerves but that it was just part of the territory when it comes to rap.

“It was nerve wrecking in the beginning and still is but as a performer it is part of the process I guess,” said Nundkumar.

Describing his style of music as fast flow rap, Nundkumar says that when he was younger he never had access to social media or the internet and used to listen to songs that caught his interest and write down lyrics of what he thought the song to be and perform them and this is what sparked his love for rap music.

With a huge social media following and presence, Nundkumar has faced challenges in the form of criticism and lack of support but believes strongly that you must keep fighting for what you want.

“Music is a channel for people to speak freely about their view on political or social issues and encourages teenagers to become concerned and aware of these issues,” he said.
